Life on Florida’s West Coast

Eating in Florida

I think a lot of people forget about how rural most of Florida is. We have big cites, yes, and lots of beaches. This brings in the tourism, which in turns means no state income tax (thank you, tourists!)

Culturally, Florida is a farming state. Ranches and agricultural communities are being eaten up by developers in many parts of the state, but when it comes down to it, Florida is still producing a vast amount of the fresh produce that feeds out nation. The “Fresh from Florida” campaign is thriving and I’m personally impressed by the number of growers who choose to use organic methods here in the state.

Because of our long growing season, crops like avocados, peppers, squash, tomatoes, and eggplants are available 10 months out of the year. Mushrooms, opinions onions, papaya, snap beans are pretty much available all year. How impressive is that! Some people think lychee fruit is only available if it is imported from outside the US, but we have growers in Florida for that as well!

It’s a virtual garden of life down here.

What kind of fruit or vegetable are ‘opinions’?
Did you mean onions or are there really opinions?
I am not mocking.
Although if you did do a typo, I will laugh.

Heh…
