Life on Florida’s West Coast

About

I live on Florida’s sunny West Coast. The region is called the Suncoast and it does indeed have a monopoly on sunny days. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington, DC and while I loved the temperate climate there, I love the Florida sun even more. Light is good for the spirit, mind and body. I’m a happier person in Florida, where there are flowers blooming all year ’round in my yard and a reason to wear sandals each and every day. Plus, people in the South are just nicer. God Bless the South.

I’m certified to teach special education. I have a desire to be there when people see they can make it over obstacles in their lives. I want to be part of the experience of learning, of life. I’m a single-mom with a daughter who is just at the right age for gliding through life with a sense of wonderment and awe. We are enjoying the journey together and I am thrilled to see the world once again through the eyes of youth.

Music is important to me. My life definitely has a soundtrack. The first note of a song can trigger a memory, an emotion, a dream, and the hook I need to find an ambition. I want to pass that along to my children, without a doubt.

I see the world through the eyes of an artist, a writer. A rock is not just a rock. Something is never just red. There are textures and adjectives that can bring every idea, every concept to vivid life.

Right now I am a freelance graphic designer and writer. I’m doing all I can to cling to my muses and still make a life for myself.

To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it’s about, but the inner music that words make.

Truman Capote

So, come on along and let’s see where this journey takes us.

But words are things, and a small drop of ink, falling like dew upon a thought, produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think.

Lord Byron
