I’ve played Final Fantasy XIV’s Namazu Beast Tribe long enough to know what matters. The Namazu line in Stormblood (released June 20, 2017) centers on crafting and gathering, and it’s a reliable way to get materials, Gil, and exclusive cosmetics—most notably the Mikoshi mount. If you want crafting perks or cute minions, this tribe is worth your time.
🐸 How to start
The questline opens after you finish the Level 66 MSQ “Naadam.” You also need at least one Disciple of the Hand or Land at level 60. The first quest, “Courage the Cowardly Lupin,” begins in Dhoro Iloh at (X:6.2, Y:23.4) in The Azim Steppe. Simple fact.
Unlike combat tribes, Namazu tasks are about making and gathering things. In my experience, crafters and gatherers will find their time returns value both as gear XP and saleable goods. Honestly, some players sleep on this because they prefer dungeons, but that’s a mistake if you care about crafting resources.
📍 Locations & needs
Primary hub: Dhoro Iloh. Other quest points include Reunion, Mol Iloh, and House of the Crooked Coin. Many quests ask for specific job levels and tools; bring proper gathering gear or crafting tools. There are exceptions—some quests accept hand-me-down materials—but prepare for the usual requirements.
| Requirement | Minimum | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main Story | Level 66 | Azim Steppe | Complete “Naadam” |
| Crafting jobs | Level 60 | Any DoH | Higher levels help |
| Gathering jobs | Level 60 | Any DoL | Melded gear helps |
| Start quest | N/A | Dhoro Iloh (6.2, 23.4) | “Courage the Cowardly Lupin” |
⭐ Reputation ranks & rewards
The tribe uses the usual five ranks: Neutral, Recognized, Friendly, Trusted, Allied. Each jump needs more points, and daily quests are the main fuel (you can do up to three Namazu dailies a day, with a 12-daily cap across tribes). We found the Allied rewards justify the effort for collectors, but some people disagree—controversial, I know!
Why chase ranks? Because higher ranks unlock better materials, furniture, and the Mikoshi mount at Allied. You’ll also get minions and crafting components that aren’t widely available elsewhere. That’s why I recommend planning rather than grinding randomly; it saves time and Gil.
Reputation thresholds
- Neutral → Recognized: 150
- Recognized → Friendly: 360
- Friendly → Trusted: 510
- Trusted → Allied: 720
Important caveat: daily quest allowances are shared across all tribes (max 12 per day). That impacts your pacing if you’re juggling multiple reputations.
🎯 Daily strategy
Three simple rules that work: prepare, route, batch. Prepare by pre-crafting common items. Route by grouping quest locations to cut travel. Batch by doing similar turn-ins together to avoid job swaps. Why? Because time saved is repeatable—every day you shave minutes, you compound the benefit.
Pre-craft? Yes. I’ve noticed many Namazu quests ask for the same components on rotation, so keeping 1–2 days’ stock cuts the daily time down dramatically. To be fair, this doesn’t always work if your server’s Market Board spikes, but usually it’s solid.
Daily plan (example):
1. Do crafting turn-ins first.
2. Finish local gathering next.
3. Tackle distant nodes last.
Quick tip: check the Market Board when speed matters. Sometimes buying a cheap item and turning it in saves far more time than crafting it yourself (depends on your niche).
🎁 Rewards table
| Type | Item | Rank | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mount | Mikoshi | Allied | Free |
| Minion | Namazu Minion | Friendly | 12 Namazu Koban |
| Furnishing | Namazu Effigy | Recognized | 6 Namazu Koban |
| Material | Gyuki Hide | Trusted | 4 Namazu Koban |
| Consumable | Namazu Cake | Neutral | 1 Namazu Koban |
💡 Advanced tips (practical)
Co-ordinate your Namazu dailies with regular material runs. For example, if you’re already farming logs in the Steppe, finish the Namazu gathering quest while you’re at it. Here’s the funny part: batching saves mental fatigue and often leaves you with marketable leftovers.
Market behavior changed since 2023, and as of 2025 I still recommend tracking common turn-in items for price trends. Selling excess stock can offset the time cost of reaching Allied. Controversial point: market speculation by players can make certain Namazu rewards artificially expensive—sometimes the grind feeds greed, which I dislike!
Advice: keep a three-day rotating stock of common materials. It’s less work and you’ll finish dailies right after reset.
Weekly template
Mon: Dailies + restock
Tue–Thu: Farm high-demand mats
Fri: Prep weekend stock
Sat–Sun: Finish dailies + side projects
Estimated time: Casual: ~15–20 min/day. Optimized: ~10–12 min/day. Allied in about 6–8 weeks if you’re consistent (your pace may vary).
Final thoughts
I’ve played this tribe as both crafter and gatherer; it rewards planning more than luck. Surprisingly, the story is quieter and more human than some beast tribes, and that grounded tone makes the routine enjoyable. Between us, if you like steady progression and neat rewards, you’ll enjoy Namazu tasks. Want the Mikoshi? Then be consistent, keep stock, and plan your days. It’ll pay off.
