Gas Prices Way Down
I know that gas prices are way down all over the place, but today I was on my way to pick up my daughter from school and I saw up a head a few blocks a snarl of cars in the road. I looked a little harder and realized it was a backup of people trying to get into a gas station. I looked at the sign for the gas prices and saw they were selling regular gas for $2.89 a gallon. No wonder everyone was crazy to get in on the deal.
So, here is my dilemma. Is the price that station is offering worth my time and effort to get in the car snarl for my turn at the pumps? I am considering leaving early tomorrow morning to see if I can get there before 6 a.m. and avoid a line. Of course, I am not even sure they will be open then.
What would you do?
$2.89? Terrific! But whether it is worth waiting in line or going out of your way depends on the savings total weighed against the other things you’re doing. I see that Tampa/Clearwater area has an average of about $3.49/gal now, so if you’re filling a 20 gal tank you could save $12! Probably worth going early or waiting in line a little while. But now you also have a new job and other errands, and if you end up going out for fast food because of the wait, or driving out of your way, well, those savings can disappear pretty fast. I use gasbuddy.com to look for the least expensive station that is not out of my way and try to combine it with work trips or part of an errand. My car is small, only a 10 gallon tank, so it isn’t usually worthwhile trying to save a few cents, if it takes me out of my way or takes already limited precious time.
It was $3.10 this morning at a little before 6 a.m., but they were out of everything except diesel. On my way to pick up Gigi this afternoon it was $3.30 (still pretty good), but again the long line and we had a doc appt to get to quickly. I will look again in the morning.
Thanks for figuring that math for me!
