Palm Islands in Dubai

I have traveled extensively within the United States. This is such a massive nation, full of different landscapes and climates, ecological oddities, and exciting cities. I could travel regularly all my life and never really see everything in the U.S.
Despite all that, I still have a desire to begin traveling more outside of the nation. I want to drive around Germany, see the ruins and my grandfather’s grave in Italy, and explore the newly wealthy gulf nations, like Dubai.
I am fascinated by the growth in Dubai. They decided they wanted to become a city that could compete with the other great cities of the west and they made it happen – quickly. A flight to dubai is ultimately reasonable and I feel like the sheer difference in the culture versus what I am used to would be an amazing thing to experience. I love that this nation allows all religions to practice freely, so in theory this is a safe place for Christians to visit. I am absolutely dying to see the man-made Palm Islands. I think they are not only visually lovely, but an amazing testament to the nation’s will to mould their surroundings to meet their needs.
Have any of you, my readers, been over there to see the great Palm Islands? Are they as impressive as I imagine?
