We are awash in Girl Scout cookies in this house, but I was in the mood for something less sweet and more classic, so I made Applesauce Cake. The recipe is old. I found it not only in my grandmother’s recipe box, but also in my great-grandmother’s.

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 cups applesauce
1 box raisins
1 cup crushed walnuts
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 Tablespoons cinnamon
1 Tablespoon ground cloves or allspice
2 eggs
pinch of salt

Cream first three ingredients. Add remaining ingredients.

Bake for 1 hour at 350ยบ in a bundt pan.

Sounds good! I love reading old recipes, for some reason they seem to be better balanced than the stuff you find in new magazines. I’m off to the shops, it has been too long since I used the oven.
