Life on Florida’s West Coast

It’s About Time: Watch Shopping

It has been years, literally, since I have worn a watch. I was home with my daughter and really all I needed were the clocks in the house, in the car, and on my cell phone. Now that I am looking for teaching jobs, I know that my sense of time needs to be accurate down to the second. Not only will I be timing kids all of the time in reading and such, but class schedules depend on accurate odd-minute movement.

I’m looking around for a new Seiko watch, since reliability is going to be important. I want something dainty and small and I found the prettiest watch on Bluedial.com. It’s a Seiko SUJ708 two tone bangle style with mother of pearl and diamonds. Isn’t it stunning? I can’t justify spending a whole lot, but this is priced reasonably.

What to Do in Florida: Spring Training

One of the cooler things about living in Florida is that we are home to a plethora of baseball teams during spring training. The Yankees have a beautiful stadium over by the airport in Tampa. The Phillies have the most amazing complex right down the road from my house. The Blue Jays and the Rays are right here in town as well.

Teams that train in Florida (Grapefruit League) play other Florida-training teams in their exhibition games, so we get a lot of inexpensive, fun entertainment around here this time of year. When I drove past Brighthouse Field on US 19 Saturday, it was packed with spectators.
