Life on Florida’s West Coast

Peanuts for all generations

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting Suncoast Scribe!

I have a four-year-old, as many of my blog readers may know. It is such a struggle to find appropriate things for her to watch on TV. I’ve had to rule out all channels that show commercials, because they are bombarding my poor kid with all thes things she now thinks she desperately needs to own. Other shows supposedly suited for children in her age group are often too violent or show children who are defiant.

Thank goodness that last Halloween I DVR’d the Peanuts Great Pumpkin special and found out that Gigi loves the Peanuts. I subsequently recorded all the Christmas specials, the Valentines Days one and the Easter one. I have them set so they won’t erase and she watches them over and over.

Not only do we both love to watch the shows together, I can trust the content. That’s a huge plus. Over on The Passionate Ailurophile, Christine is running a nifty little contest. She has picked out three things she wants to buy for herself and is inviting other bloggers to talk about one of the items. There will eventually be voting for the best entry and once a winner is chosen, Christine will buy two copies of the winning item — one for her and one for the winning blogger.

Of course, I chose the The Complete Peanuts 1950-1954 Boxed Set. As my daughter learns how to read I can think of no better words for us to share than those of Charles M. Schulz.

Sort of related and I don’t think they have it for TV yet but if you’re curious as to whether or not a movie is suitable for your child I always found that the website KidsInMind.com is a great place to look.

Now if someone would do that with TV shows, though TV shows aren’t as bad as Movies… most of them anyway.

I’ve got a channel for you: Noggin. It is awesome. The only commercials you see are for shows on that network. I love it!

Tyler – Thanks for the site! I will be checking that out pronto!

Lisa – Yep. The two channels I had in mind when writing my post were Noggin and sometimes PBS. I know some people get a channel called Sprout, but our cable network doesn’t carry it. I sometimes let her watch Disney, but we do a lot of DVDs.

My little one hasn’t started the wanting yet. She isn’t even 2 yet. She likes her spongebob with dad though and amazingly. He likes it too. I sometimes find him watching it when she is fast asleep. Crazy…

No the best is when my hubby sits there and giggles with my daughter while watching the Upside Down Show (which is the corniest show ever).

Lisa, I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned in comments on your blog before that my daughter and I like the Upside Down Show. We each have our own crushes on the guys and will debate the merits of our chosen cutie :)
